Rum Old Fashioned
A blend of rum, sugar syrup, and vanilla bitters. Bottled and aged for at least six weeks.

A variation on the classic bourbon version, this is an Old Fashioned with a really high quality rum. The rum’s softer allures like toasted sugars and vanilla come out strong with a few weeks ageing, but a sip of this Old Fashioned reveals pepper and heat, burnt oak and honey.
Pour over ice in a rocks glass and stir until freezing. Add a slice of lime.

So, Rum. When I was a child, nobody drank this. I can’t count white rum, and not just out of misplaced snobbery. It’s very hard to connect a drink like Bacardi with a drink like Ron Zacapa XO. They don’t appear to have anything to do with each other, so seems funny that they have the same name. I understand that you dissolve sugar and ferment molasses and so on in both, but that doesn’t seem to connect them in my mind. Anyway, that’s not the point.
Old Fashioned is a great drink, and hard to get wrong, whatever people say. Put a teaspoon of sugar in a glass, two or three dashes of bitters, and a good slug of bourbon. Ice optional, twist of orange peel looks and tastes great. No slice of orange, no cherry, no water, no vermouth.
